Effortless Daily Smoothness

Laser Hair Removal at On The Glow Medspa & Aesthetics

Traditional hair removal methods, like shaving, waxing, plucking, and depilatory creams, provide only temporary relief from unwanted body hair. Frequent shaving often leads to painful ingrown hairs, razor burn, folliculitis, and persistent skin irritation that disrupts your daily routine.

At On The Glow Medspa & Aesthetics in Porter Ranch, laser hair removal provides a long-term solution for unwanted hair across the face and body. By delivering targeted light energy directly into active hair follicles, laser technology inhibits future hair growth without damaging surrounding dermal tissue, leaving your skin consistently smooth and clear.

What is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser Hair Removal is the process of using concentrated light to eliminate unwanted hair at the source. Unlike shaving (which cuts hair at the surface) or waxing (which rips it out), lasers disable the hair follicle entirely so it can't grow back.

At On The Glow, we use medical-grade lasers that are safe for all skin tones, meaning you can finally say goodbye to razor burn, ingrown hairs, and the daily hassle of shaving.

How It Works

What is the laser hair removal procedure like?

The laser emits a specific beam of light that seeks out pigment (melanin) in the hair. The hair shaft absorbs this light energy and converts it into heat. This heat travels down the hair and damages the follicle bulb responsible for growth. Since hair grows in cycles, we can only target hairs that are currently in the "active growth" phase. That is why you need a series of treatments spaced apart to catch every hair when it enters that growth phase.

Shave

You MUST shave the area 24 hours before coming in. The laser targets the root, not long hair.

Treatment

You will feel a sensation like a rubber band snapping against the skin, followed by cooling air.

Post-Care

Avoid sun exposure and hot showers for 24 hours. No gym/sweating for 24 hours.

Time and Energy Saved

What are the benefits of laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal offers a convenient way to achieve smoother skin by targeting and reducing unwanted hair growth. Unlike traditional methods such as shaving or waxing, laser treatments provide longer-lasting results. The precision of lasers ensures that only the hair follicles are affected, minimizing irritation to surrounding skin.

Many find this method less painful over time compared to waxing. With consistent sessions, individuals often notice a significant reduction in hair density, which means fewer touch-ups are needed. Ultimately, laser hair removal is an efficient and effective solution for those seeking permanent hair reduction with minimal hassle.

Candidate Guidelines

Am I a candidate for laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal is suitable for adult men and women looking to reduce unwanted face or body hair and prevent razor irritation. Modern laser technologies feature adjustable pulse durations and cooling systems, allowing for safe and effective treatments across light to dark skin tones (Fitzpatrick I–VI).

Because the laser relies on melanin to locate the hair follicle, the treatment is most effective on hair that contains pigment (dark blonde, brown, or black hair). It is less effective on white, grey, blonde, or red hair. Laser hair removal is contraindicated for individuals with active skin infections in the treatment area, active sunburns or recent self-tanner application, use of photosensitizing medications, or women who are pregnant. A complete skin review is conducted at On The Glow prior to treatment to confirm parameters.

Laser Hair Removal Recovery & Results

Recovery

Laser hair removal involves no social downtime, allowing patients to resume normal daily activities immediately following their appointment. Skin may exhibit mild redness or slight "goosebump-like" swelling around individual hair follicles (perifollicular edema), which typically subsides within a few hours.

Over the 1 to 3 weeks following treatment, hair in the treated follicles will naturally loosen and shed from the skin.

To support safe skin healing, patients should observe these guidelines:

  • Do not wax, pluck, or thread treated hair between sessions; shaving is permitted.
  • Apply a broad-spectrum physical zinc oxide sunscreen daily and strictly avoid direct sun exposure on treated areas.
  • Refrain from hot showers, saunas, hot tubs, and intense workouts for 24 to 48 hours post-treatment.
  • Gently exfoliate the skin 3 to 5 days post-treatment to help shedding hairs slip out cleanly.

Results

Reduction in hair growth is progressive across your treatment series. After your first session, regrowing hair appears sparser, finer, and grows back at a slower rate.

Because only follicles in the active Anagen growth phase are affected during each visit, achieving comprehensive long-term hair reduction typically requires a series of 6 to 8 treatment sessions spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart (depending on the body zone). Once the initial series is complete, long-term hair reduction of 80% to 90% is typical, with brief annual maintenance sessions preserving smooth results over time.

Laser Hair Removal Frequently Asked Questions

Laser hair removal provides permanent hair reduction. While it significantly disables active follicles (reducing overall hair density by 80% to 90%), hormonal shifts or dormant follicle activation may occasionally require minor maintenance touch-ups over time.

Most patients tolerate treatment very well. Sensations are often described as a brief rubber band snap accompanied by warmth. Advanced contact cooling systems on the handpiece keep the skin surface cool and comfortable throughout the session.

Yes. Shaving between appointments is allowed and encouraged. However, you must avoid plucking, waxing, or bleaching hair, as these methods remove the hair root that the laser needs to target.

Most patients need an initial series of 6 to 8 sessions spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart to catch all hair follicles during their active Anagen growth phase.

Yes. With proper wavelength selection (such as Nd:YAG energy wavelengths) and longer pulse durations, laser hair removal can be performed safely on darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick IV–VI) without causing pigment alterations.

Cost depends on the size of the treatment zone (e.g., small areas like the upper lip vs. large areas like full legs or back) and whether single sessions or multi-treatment packages are selected. Complete pricing details are reviewed transparently during your consultation, with 20% off available for new clients.
